WebKey Benefits of Falling Film Tubular Evaporators Short product contact time minimizes thermal degradation effects Low tube wall temperature and heat flux minimizes fouling … WebAug 1, 2007 · The design of falling film evaporators is often based on empirical correlations and rules of thumb, especially for the maximum heat flux and minimum liquid load. When designed at the borderlines of established operating regions significant over-design may be found. This can largely be attributed to a limited database.

Falling Film Evaporator Principle - Water Chemistry
Falling film evaporators have a number of advantages over their flooded evaporator counterparts. They require a lower charge, as the entire shell (in the case of horizontal evaporators) or all the tubes (in the case of a vertical evaporator) need not be filled with liquid as a thin film is now used to cover the surfaces. In industries such as heating and air-conditioning this can save significant money due to the high costs of a refrigerant charge. Falling-film evaporators are constructed around a vertical bundle of large-diameter long tubes, with a liquid distributor on top and a vapor/liquid separator section below. Liquid is fed into the top of the heat exchanger tubes and flows as a film down the inner walls.
